The game was originally created by Core Design and released in 2007, with their license expiring on September 12th 2016. Square Enix took over development after they bought Core Design in 2009, meaning users would have had to continue paying their "upgrade fee" to keep using Tomb Raider Anniversary. The game was officially discontinued on September 12th 2016 at 23:59 GMT/UTC. ARTICLE END At the time of the game's official discontinuation, there was an open dialogue between users and Square Enix, with the support team confirming that the multiplayer servers would remain online for at least 1 year. However, on May 2017, all communication with Square Enix ceased after they stated that they would not be renewing their license to use Valve's Steamworks DRM service. With this, all login servers were shut down alongside other services including "TombRaiderForums" which was used by many players to share tips and hints regarding the game. There are currently no plans to resurrect either multiplayer or TombRaiderForums services. The multiplayer aspect of "Tomb Raider Anniversary" was removed with the discontinuation of the game's license on September 12th, 2016 at 23:59 GMT/UTC, putting an end to any future patches or software updates. "Tomb Raider Anniversary" received "generally favourable reviews", while its iOS version holds aggregate scores of 85% and 82.33% at GameRankings and Metacritic respectively. Gregory Lutz of "GameZone" heavily criticized the level design for being dull and repetitive, but felt that it had "enough action sequences" despite being too linear to be considered a good hack and slash game. He also saw the game's story to be "great in parts", but felt the game was too short in comparison to the original, with many parts of it being dull. Lutz did, however, praise the graphics for being more detailed than on previous console iterations. The iOS version holds aggregate scores of 4.5/5.0 at GameRankings and Metacritic respectively. The iOS version received "universal acclaim", with critics praising its graphics, level design and overall experience, earning it a score of 94/100 at Metacritic. IGN's Levi Buchanan gave the game a 9.1/10, stating that it was "one of the best iPhone games, full stop". Square Enix announced that "Tomb Raider" had become the fastest-selling game in company history, with 2.6 million copies sold across all platforms in its first month. It became the best-selling game in Europe for 2007. By July 2008, Square Enix reported it has sold 5 million copies worldwide since its release in March 2007. As of June 30, 2014, over 8 million units have been shipped worldwide. cfa1e77820
